OLSON'S NATURAL MEATS:

  Pasture Raised,

  Home Fed,

  Happy Chickens!
Moveable pens provide protection, shade and fresh grass

We used to raise the chickens as seen in the picture above, but found that when confined the chickens were not happy. Therefore, we continue to use these same shelters but raise the fronts so the chickens can come and go as they like. We find that they sound and look much happier and continue to thrive very well. Our chickens are from 12 to 14 weeks old when processed at the Hector MN plant where they are dressed, vacuum packed in shrink bags and flash frozen to seal in the freshness. We believe this process together with our home grown grains and the longer growth time provides our customers with a very tasty, long lasting, safe product.

A calf and mother enjoy fresh air, lush pasture and sunshine

During the grazing season, which usually begins about May 10th and ends when we have continued freezing temperatures (often into November), the cattle, horses, hogs and sheep are out on the pasture. We practice intensively managed grazing which has increased our forage significantly.  The animals are moved to small cells frequently as the grass growth dictates. Animals on pasture cooperate very well since they are quick to learn that when they see us it means fresh grass. During the winter they all have access to housing which includes straw bedding so that they are dry and comfortable. They are all fattened on grass or hay and home grown grains (corn & barley).
